• Justice through retribution principle
• Provides closure for victims' families
• Prevents repeat offenses
• Acts as crime deterrent
• DNA testing ensures accuracy
My group and I believe the death penalty is a good thing. A killer or rapist should not lie in prison with three meals a day, clean sheets, cable tv, family visits, and other advances. When someone takes a life the balance of justice is disturbed.
Retribution has maintained that it is proper to take an "eye for an eye" and a life for a life. The victim and the victim's family can not be restored to the place that preceded the murder, and execution at least brings closure to the crime and the victim's family. It ensures us that there will be no more victims from that perpetrator.
For the most cruel and heinous crimes such as murder, rape, and terrorism the death penalty should be applied. Any lesser punishment would weaken the value society places on protecting lives. Execution also deters crimes from happening. Society should use the strongest punishment available to deter crimes and that is the death penalty.
If criminals are sentenced to death and executed, others will think twice before they commit a crime in fear of losing their own life. If it can be shown that these people are 100% guilty they are deserving of the death penalty. DNA testing can be used to show that defendants are guilty and deserve this punishment.
